Come on, those who know me well enough know fine well I HAVE to blog about this. THAT WAS A CRAP RESULT. Leon, whether he's from Scotland or not, is unoriginal, uninspiring, and just, well, shouldn't be the winner. He's like bad Sinatra karaoke, and, what a surprise, that's exactly what his new single sounds like - bad Sinatra karaoke. I did expect the brother/sister act Same Difference to leave the contest tonight, but I never in a million years expected the bookies' favourite, Rhydian Roberts, to go the same way. Leon's performance of White Christmas wasn't a patch even on his own previous performances, his second song was better (helped by Kylie, much?), and the last one was forgettable. The single I won't even begin to tear apart.
On the other hand, I've never found Rhydian boring; no one could ever say he was like anyone else who has gone before and it's so annoying that the show has tonight firmly crossed the line from "talent show" to "popularity contest". I don't give a crap if Leon's mum's a single mum, if she is poor or whatever...he didn't win the competition on merit, and it bugs the crap out of me when that happens. Rhydian didn't present a sob story, and had all sorts of nasty stories spread about him earlier on in the competition (not helped, I admit, by his immature attitude), but I felt he did his best with what he had and took every criticism that was thrown at him. I also felt that, as some of the judges said, he performed consistently well throughout the whole contest, and his performance of the winner's single was extremely moving compared with Leon's cacophonous whining.
I hope to goodness someone bootlegged Rhydian singing that winner's song. *goes away to browse t'Internet*
